Henry Bourke

BSc(Hons), FRCS(Tr&Orth)

Consultant Orthopaedic & Specialist Knee Surgeon

Mr Bourke is a UK-trained specialist knee surgeon.

He qualified from Imperial College, London in 2002. ‘Medicine has always been in my family’ he says. ‘I am a third-generation doctor following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather’.

He trained in orthopaedics in the South-West Thames deanery in England before embarking on knee fellowship training in Australia in 2011 and 2012. He trained under the famous Professor Leo Pincezweski in North Sydney and then went through The Melbourne Knee Fellowship in Victoria. On return to the UK, he was appointed a consultant at Wexham Park Hospital, now part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in 2013.

Mr Bourke will listen to your individual story about your knee and will tailor an individual treatment plan to your lifestyle, sporting aspirations and personal needs. ‘I’ve been a frustrated sportsman with different injuries for many years of my own life’ he says, ‘so I have a great deal of understanding of how knee injuries and pain can affect us’. He is still a keen trail-runner, tennis-player and has a great passion for skiing.

Mr Bourke is the director of an International Knee Meeting bringing together surgeons from around the globe once every two years to discuss the latest techniques in knee surgery. He travels regularly to meetings and enjoys visiting other knee surgeons. ‘I work really hard for my patients’ he says ‘to ensure I keep my practice up to date so I can offer the latest technology and to give advice about new treatments’.

Knee Arthroscopy June 2023, Dr EM

“Mr Bourke is an exceptional surgeon and human being. He has a wonderful bedside manner and  provides a marvellous after-care service. I cannot sing my praises for him any higher. Should I ever need any knee surgery in the future I would not hesitate to use Mr Bourke. I would fly back from Australia if necessary.”

Revision knee replacement March 2023, Mrs DE

After experiencing discomfort and weakness in both knees for some time, I went to see Mr Bourke who recommended Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR) as the best long term solution. Mr Bourke was very friendly, and guided me through the procedure. His manner and considerable experience gave me the confidence to go ahead with surgery on both knees, with a 3 month gap in between. I have been delighted with the results and the follow-up consultations. I would thoroughly recommend Mr Bourke to anyone seeking advice in connection with their knees.’

Partial knee replacements Dec 2022 and March 2023, Mr RP
